Very unsuccessful design with many failures within the first months of operation leading to the firing of W.G.Beattie. Some engines modified by Adams 1880-82. Some rebuilt with Jubilee type boiler.
Some engines rebuilt by Adams with Jubilee type boilers, Adams cabs and stovepipe chimney: Weight: 44 tons 6 cwt; Pressure: 160psi.
