Minster gate

The original entrance to College Street.

Incorporating part of the Minster gatehouse, this building over College Street dates from around 1600. There was once a bridge from here to the Bedern gate so that the Vicars Choral could walk to the Minster without having to leave the Minster Precinct.

Until 1903 the buildings of Goodramgate were continuous at this point and the side face of this building was not visible. At that date the buildings up to the gatehouse were demolished to make way for the new Deangate.

The buildings behind date originally from the 14th century but have been much modified.
