All Saints' Tower.

19th century lantern tower.

Although originally built in the early 15th century, the lantern tower was completely rebuilt, together with the tower being partially rebuilt in 1837.

Originally the lantern may have been lit to assist travellers crossing the Forest of Galtres (comprised of much open scrub land at the time). Now the lantern is lit as a memorial to the citizens of York who lost their lives in the two World Wars.
