Cumberland House

18th century

Built in the early 18th century the house was occupied by the Duke of Cumberland in the mid 18th century and hence its name. The basement is above ground and is completely separate from the house. The entrance door to the house is higher up Cumberland Street to prevent flooding in the frequent Ouse floods.

Even so, it is sometimes difficult to access the property when flooded.
