Multangular Tower

Early 4th century Roman

The tower was incorporated into the medieval walls more than 1000 years after the Romans built it. The first 5.7 m (19 ft) are Roman. At the base of the Roman wall it is 2 m ( 6 ft 9 in) thinning to a little less than 1 m (3 ft) at its top. The tower comprises 10 sides of a regular 13-sided figure and hence the name. Until the late 17th century the tower was called Elrondyng. (Ref. 1c)
