St. Andrew's Church

15th century

St. Andrew's Church.

First mentioned in the late 12th century the building now standing consists of the 15th century nave and a rebuilt cottage built itself on the ruins of the late 14th century chancel. The church was a victim of the 16th century rationalisation of the York parishes. By the 18th century it was reported to be a stable at one end and a brothel at the other. St. Peter's School used the building for 100 years in the 18th century. The building is once again being used for its initial purpose as St. Andrew's Evangelical Church. (Ref. 1)
