St. Saviour's

15th and 19th centuries.

The church was probably founded before the conquest on a site that was reclaimed from a marsh (it overlooks Hungate which itself has been reclaimed from the marsh originally associated with the River Foss). It was rebuilt in the 15th century and again, most of it, in the 19th. The tower and north west corner in this view are from the 15th century. It is now used by the York Archaeological Society.
