Bedern Chapel

The Chapel of The Holy Trinity, The Blessed Virgin and St. Katherine or Bedern Chapel was the Chapel of the Vicars Choral.

The Vicars Choral took possession of the Bedern in 1248 and this chapel was built around 1320. The College of the Vicars Choral was founded in 1252 and dissolved in 1936 and in 1947 the mid-15th century font from the chapel was transfered to the crypt of the Minster.

The Vicars Choral were men who could deputise for canons singing the services in the Minster. (Vicar means 'substitute'.)
