St Williams College

View from College Green.

Built around 1465 the College was in private hands by 1549 at the dissolution. For six months from March 1642 Charles I made York the Royal Capital and St William's College became his mint. After this date it was divided into tenements and leased to poor people. It remained thus until sold to the Convocation of York in 1906. Since that date the building has been extensively restored by Temple Moore, Architect. (Ref. 1)
