Leeman statue

Late 19th century

Erected in 1885. George Leeman was deputy-chairman and chairman of the North Eastern Railway Company from 1855 to 1880. He was a major opponent of George Hudson on the City Council in the 1830s and 40s. Leeman Road leading originally to the York North Locomotive Depot and now past the National Railway Museum which occupies the building, is named after him.
