NER hotel

19th century

View from the Bar Walls of this large railway hotel (built 1878 for the North Eastern Railway). It passes successively to the LNER in the 1923 regrouping of the railways, and to British Railways at the 1948 nationalisation of the railways. It has been in non railway hands only for the past decade after BR was privatised.
