Mansion house

18th century.

York's official residence of the Lord Mayor, built 1725-30 during the short time when Georgian York was regaining some of its former status as a major centre. It predates the Mansion House in London.

It was built on the site of the gateway to the Common Hall (Guildhall) and the arch at ground level on the right under the house is Common Hall Lane leading through to the Guildhall and the river.
