Bartle Garth.

A redeveloped street which serves the newly restored Hall of the Vicars Choral and which now links Bedern with St. Andrewgate.

Slums of the mid-19th century:
Home to many Irish immigrants the large 17th century houses here had been converted into tenements and the state of the sanitation in these was reported in 1852, it being observed that there were only five privies for 300 persons in Back Bedern. This was the year of an outbreak of cholera in the city.

Ahead on the left is the Hall of the Vicars Choral.
