Castlegate is NOT pedestrianised though it carries little traffic. Castlegate is a continuation of the streets running above the north east bank of the river from the entrance to the Roman fort (where St Helen's Square now is) along Coney Street, Spurriergate, Nessgate and finally Castlegate.

Junction with Clifford Street (left leading to the Castle and Skeldergate Bridge), Coppergate (right leading to Pavement), and Nessgate (ahead leading to Spurriergate and Coney Street).
