Lendal Bridge.

Built in 1860-63 to provide better access between the city and the railway station then on Toft Green within the Bar Walls.
The foundation stone was laid in 1860 but the partially constructed bridge collapsed in 1861 a new design by Thomas Page, the designer of London bridge, was built and opened in 1863. The bridge was strengthened in 1910 when an electric tram route from Dringhouses to Haxby Road was built.

An entrance onto the Bar Walls, heading anticlockwise towards Micklegate Bar, and steps down to Baker Tower is on the right.

This is part of the Inner Ring road (the only section within the walls) and is very busy with traffic during the day.
