Market Street forms the beginning of a series of roads running just outside and to the south east of the old Roman Walls and continuing along Jubbergate, Newgate and St. Andrewgate.

At this junction Market Street continues bearing slightly to the right (perhaps when formed as a path curving round the south tower of the Roman wall which lay just to the left in Feasegate). Bearing left passes into Feasegate heading for St. Sampson's Square, and turning right leads into Peter Lane which heads into High Ousegate.
