The street runs parallel to the Bar Walls and is a continuation of Aldwark. About 76 m (250 ft) from the Goodramgate end (between numbers 12 and 14) was a gate into the Minster precinct (one of four: Lop Lane (now Duncombe Place), Minster Gates, and College Street are the other three sites). The gate was removed around 1700. (Ref. 1)
