Skeldergate Bridge
From at least the 16th century there was a ferry crossing at this site. By the second half of the 19th century the need for a third bridge over the Ouse becaame apparent and Skeldergate Bridge was begun in 1878 and opened in 1881. To help pay for the bridge a toll was charged until 1914. A portion of the bridge could be opened to allow river traffic through to the staiths just before Ouse Bridge.
