St Crux Lane
On the left is a part of the north wall of the demolished St. Crux church.
St. Crux church looked quite different from other Medieval churches in York in that it had a brick tower surmounted by a cupola. It was found unsafe in the 1870s and demolished despite attempts to save it. Some of the stones from the church were used to build the St. Crux Parish Hall.
This passage, passing behind the St Crux Parish Hall seen on the left, has no name on maps.
Ahead is the Shambles: turn left to head towards Pavement; turn right to head towards King's Square.
