Walmgate runs between Foss Bridge near the City centre and the walls at Walmgate Bar and was the main road to Hull. It never became fashionable as did Micklegate, Monkgate or Bootham (these latter two outside the walls) and runs through an area which became much run down in the 19th century.

Turn left at this junction into Merchantgate (built 1912) leading to Piccadilly.

Ahead is Foss Bridge and Fossgate leading to Pavement and the City Centre.
